Visiting Cuypers

Museum lesson for grades 1 through 4 (grades 5 through 8 available upon request) in which students learn what a museum is and who Pierre Cuypers was.

Lesson Content
Together with a museum docent, students explore the Cuypershuis. The tour begins at the museum entrance with the bust of Pierre Cuypers. What exactly is a museum? And who was Pierre Cuypers, and what did he do? We’ll discover the answer to that last question together as we set out on a journey of discovery through the museum. The focus is on the students’ own experiences. Together, we’ll discuss the unique ceiling, the various materials Cuypers worked with, and all the things he created (not just buildings, but also furniture and sculptures!). We’ll wrap up the museum visit by coloring in the special ceiling we saw earlier during the tour and/or building with blocks.
